Even off-road vehicles in the agricultural and construction machinery industry have a significant share of global emissions. Unlike the automotive industry there is for vehicles such as construction equipment, agricultural machinery and forestry machines as yet no standard hybrid vehicles or fully electronic.
In hybridization or electrification of mobile machines in addition to the developers must also drive the drive of the working tools take into account that also consume much energy. And this high energy is also a big problem for the hybrid technology because it requires a correspondingly large energy storage. To allow a standard use of lithium-ion batteries in agricultural and other commercial vehicles, are now in the research project "LIB-OFF-ROAD '(use of lithium-ion batteries in off-road commercial vehicles for effectiveness and autonomy increase) , the energy developed technologically.
Project partners are the Cologne Laboratory for Heavy Equipment (KLB) in the Institute for Agricultural Technology and Renewable Energies of the University of Cologne, headed by Prof. Dr. Alfred Ulrich, the Technical University of Munich (Institute for Internal Combustion Engines), the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research in Ulm, and Industry partners in the industry for mobile machines. This research project is funded for three years from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
Together with various partners in the project are LiB-OFF-Road models developed for a lithium-ion battery, a diesel engine as well as for different drive trains and analyzed at certain load cycles. Targets the development of an efficient energy management concept and the development and testing of a prototype are in hybrid drive to be able to include the analysis of the relationship between exhaust emission and hybridisation.
The Cologne University of Applied Sciences is the largest University of Applied Sciences in Germany. 16,000 students are taught by 400 professors. The offer of eleven faculties and the Institute for Tropical Technology includes about 70 courses, each about half in engineering and humanities and social sciences: from architecture, electrical and mechanical engineering, design and restoration, information science, languages, and Social Work to business law and media computer science. Newly added are in the fall of 2009, the Applied Science. Belong to the university in addition to locations in Cologne-Deutz, and in the south of Cologne and the Campus Gummersbach, under construction, the campus Leverkusen. The Cologne University of Applied Sciences is a full member of the Association of European Universities (EUA), it belongs to the college network UAS 7 and the Innovation Alliance of North Rhine-Westphalian universities. The university is also a European eco-management in accordance with the directives EMAS and ISO 14001 certified and environmentally certified facility.
The Cologne laboratory for Construction (KLB) in the Institute for Agricultural Technology and Renewable Energies of the Faculty of Applied Sciences Cologne in 2009 is a frequent research partner to support the entire product development process of developing the product idea to market. Director is Prof. Dr. Alfred Ulrich. In the research and development project and Master's and cooperative promotions are involved. The cooperation projects include the development of a hydraulic docking (Variolock), the development of a model system for the Fahrzeugquerdynamik in mobile equipment (Moba Control) and the development of a procedure for the installation of two asphalt layers - hot on hot - in one operation .
